Day 2: Getting Help For The Boy Who Cried Wolf

While today was a bit of a struggle in the calorie department (365 calories over budget), I managed to stick with the goal of documenting my food intake. This morning, though, I came across a challenge; my wife made me lunch, and I hadn’t mentioned to her that I was ‘back on a diet’. Instead of taking an ‘off day’ (which is WAY too early), I counted the calories of the lunch, and even decided against one of the snacks that was packed. My wife is supportive of my weight loss, and I understand that she’s thinking that this is yet another feeble attempt at losing weight. However, the more that I stick with it, the more credibility I will receive, and the more likely I will see results.

1700 calories tomorrow or bust!

Day 1: Here We Go!

Sad.

This is what happens when I let myself go; unfit, unhealthy, unhappy with my image. I’m not proud of this, and that’s why I’m here. The good news is that it’s the last time I’m going to be in this bad of shape. Currently, I am 232.6 pounds with about 30% body fat. I am using LoseIt! to track my calorie intake and exercise. My ultimate goal is to get back to my high school weight of 175 pounds by adjusting my habits and setting process goals along the way. Right now, I have set my daily caloric intake at 1700 calories. Needless to say, there will be times that I will be above and below this mark. The most important thing is to track my intake, and everything else will fall into place.

My goals for the week are as follows:

  1. Create ‘Goals’ page on this website
  2. Track my food intake daily on LoseIt!
  3. End the week at or under my 1700 calorie target
  4. Run/Jog/Walk seven miles.
  5. Jump rope for 4000 skips.
Looking forward to the next weigh-in next Monday morning. Until then, it’s time to get to work!

Day 0: The Realization

It’s official. I’m overweight. In fact, I’m considered ‘obese’, which is another way of saying ‘time to get off the couch, fatty!’

There’s really nothing (or nobody) to blame except for myself. Out of all of life’s crazy things that we cannot control, weight is one of those things that we can control. Of course, with the recent birth of our twin boys (and our oldest, who is still in diapers), it is easy to say that I’ve lost control of the ‘healthy’ portion of my life. It’s the feeling of ‘everything else matters, except for myself’. However, when I look at our family, I realize that in order for me to be the best that I need to be to support them, the concept of ‘being healthy’ is the most important thing in the world.

To help the most important thing in the world, you must be the most important thing in the world.

I am ready to change. Bring it!
